2 Games to Mentally Program Nature

Prior to the release of the Nintendo, Super-Nintendo, or N64 who recalls the days of curiosity and story-telling? The neighborhood streets roaring with card riddled spokes, trampolines full of bouncing laughter, and fields of running imaginations. Kids lounging on stoops, or in basements, plotting their next move like executive officers curating a business plan.

The question is, have these flames of spontaneity lost its oxygen source?

This childhood energy cultivated to inspire, create, and dream is harbored in the heart of everyone of us. However, the digital 21st century has ushered in a diversity of outlets for our children to discover ingenuity. Children of the new millennium will grow up with technology as a twin sibling. Their symbiotic relationship with technology is what the Thunderbird was to high schoolers in Grease – a necessity.

If the outdoors is to be explored, the muscle memory to interact with nature must be exercised. Interjecting outdoor activities via scheduled sporting events is a great method of absorbing your daily dose of vitamin-D and fostering teamwork or leadership, but it may also be a robotic timed event your child must attend.

Setting aside time for exploration and inquisitive pondering outside will help children begin to think outside the box of our structured life. Maybe all we need are tools to act as a starting block for our children to harness play in nature more.
